Handloom/woven fabrics
Karlotta Pink works with small weaving cooperatives in northern India. Almost every rural Indian family has a loom. Weaving used to be one of the main occupations of women. In the course of industrialisation, this craft has taken a back seat to other jobs in large companies. Our partners in India want to promote the old craft with their initiative and at the same time enable women to contribute to their livelihood. The weavers produce the fabrics at home, which are then sold collectively through the social cooperative. Each fabric bears the signature of the weaver.
Even the semi-machine-made woven fabrics from smaller factories are fairly traded, made from 100% cotton and impress with their comfortable feel.
